Career Mentoring

Career Mentoring Program

The ACE Career Mentoring Committee is pleased to announce a new program to facilitate and support mentoring relationships between members. The  document below outlines the charge of the program, as recently approved by the Board of Directors.

The Program goal is to support professional career development through the facilitation of mentoring relationships within the College. Specifically, the Program will provide:

  • guidance and expertise to members of the College;
  • opportunities for networking;
  • advice on professional issues; and
  • support for professional development.

Mechanisms to achieve these goals include implementation of a "match-making" service between mentors and those who wish to be mentored (protegés); and, continuing professional growth through the exchange of mentoring skills and practices.

We are seeking volunteer mentors!

Responsibilities of the Mentor may include:

  • assistance and guidance with determining professional career goals, and outlining specific plans to progress toward their achievement;
  • direction to relevant opportunities and networking with other professionals; and
  • advice regarding research/service/professional activities, potentially including helping with ideas for skill building and effectiveness in teaching and training roles.

Monthly telephone meetings, for those who want on-going contact, would be desirable, to supplement email exchanges. An annual in-person meeting of the individuals will be facilitated through the mentoring round table lunch or other venue at the College's annual meeting.

We are seeking members who want professional mentorship and wish to be matched with a mentor!

If you are willing to be a mentor, or wish to be matched with a mentor, or just have questions, please contact Jim Gurney at jamegurn@med.umich.edu or 734-615-9748.
