Jane R. Montealegre, PhD MSPH

Jane Montealegre, PhD MSPH is Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine and Assistant Director for Community Outreach and Engagement at the Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. She is a Behavioral Epidemiologist with research expertise in health disparities and preventive healthcare utilization. Her research focuses on the design, implementation, and evaluation of community- and health system-based interventions to address cancer health disparities among medically underserved populations, with particular emphasis on prevention and screening of cervical and other human papillomavirus (HPV)-associated cancers.

Dr. Montealegre is PI of a pragmatic randomized controlled trial to evaluate the effectiveness and implementation of self-collected HPV testing to increase cervical cancer screening among under-screened minority women in safety net health system settings. She is also PI of several cancer prevention implementation programs to increase HPV vaccination and cervical cancer screening, as well as colorectal cancer screening and tobacco use prevention, in safety net health settings. These projects collectively evaluate the effectiveness and implementation of multi-level interventions to increase delivery, uptake, and utilization of cancer prevention clinical services.
